People living in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire can access mental health services including Talking Therapies and a 24 hour mental health crisis line. These services are free and do not require a referral.

Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Crisis Line
Nottingham and Nottinghamshire have a crisis line is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to people of all ages. Tel: 0808 1963779
If you’re in a mental health crisis, call the crisis line anytime of the day or night, and we can arrange for you to speak with a mental health professional. We can also advise you about other services, which can help you.
The crisis line is operated by local health workers. Don’t worry, they will help you get the right support.
Mental Health Recovery Workers will provide brief psychiatric screening, therapeutic/emotional support including immediate coping strategies and reassurance, information on other services they may wish to contact for ongoing support and how to access them. Call 0808 196 3779.
If people require more urgent support, they may be transferred to the Crisis Teams (provided by NHT) who operate 24/7 and provide face to face assessments and home treatment to people who would otherwise be admitted to hospital.
All age Suicide Crisis and Self-Harm Service
Harmless offer short-term holistic approach to manage and mitigate risk increase emotional regulation and distress tolerance and to stabilize through one-to-one recovery focused interventions, to anyone of any age experiencing suicidal crisis or self-harm or supporting a loved one in suicidal crisis or with self-harm. The service is for people of all ages.

All clients will be supported to develop crisis management plans and safety plans throughout their support journey. Sessions are offered in both a remote and face to face capacity dependent on client’s preference.

Deaf BSL users

We want everyone to be able to access help when they need to so if you are Deaf or Hard of Hearing and use BSL you can contact the phone number 0808 196 3779 with the help of the video relay service run by Nottinghamshire Sign Language Interpreting Service using the Skype address BSLnotts. (Only available 9am to 5pm).
The person on the phone will ask you some questions about your worry, or those of the person you are calling on behalf of, so they can connect you to the person or service that will be most helpful to you.

Primary Care
In many instances, people seek help via their GP if they have concerns for their mental health. GPs might offer advice and signposting.
Social Prescribing Link Workers in primary care can help patients to improve their health, wellbeing and social welfare by connecting them to community services which might be run by the council or a local charity.
Referral into more specialist /secondary mental health services such as Local Mental Health Teams (LMHT) is also via a GP.
NHS Talking Therapies for people living in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire
Talking therapies are effective and confidential treatments delivered by fully trained and accredited practitioners. They can help with common mental health problems like stress, anxiety and depression.
You can access talking therapies for free on the NHS.
You can refer yourself directly to an NHS talking therapies service without a referral from a GP, or a GP can refer you.
NHS talking therapies services were previously known as Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) services.
These services are still open and accessible during coronavirus (COVID-19). Help is available in person, by video, over the phone or as an online course.

Nottinghamshire Crisis Sanctuaries
Nottinghamshire Crisis Sanctuaries can help you with support, information and guidance if you are over 18 years old and experiencing mental health issues or in a mental health crisis.
They are available across a number of locations in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire and are now open seven nights a week in the City, Beeston and Mansfield. The Worksop venue is open every Wednesday and Sunday.
The team is ready to listen and waiting to hear from you on 0115 844 1846.
You can also just drop in to one of the sanctuaries:
- Beeston – 318 High Road, NG9 1EJ: 6pm to 11pm Monday to Sunday
- Mansfield – top of St John Street, NG18 1QJ: 4pm to 9pm Monday to Sunday
- Worksop – Hardy Street, S80 1EH: 5pm to 10pm Wednesday and Sunday
- Nottingham City – the Wellbeing Hub, 73 Hounds Gate, NG1 6BB: 6pm to 11pm Monday to Sunday
Each sanctuary will have three trained Crisis Intervention Workers who can help you with recovery-focused crisis support in a trusted and consistent space. If required, onward community referrals will be made.

Shout is a free and confidential mental health support text messaging service to people of all ages living in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. The service is open 24/7 and specially trained volunteers are able to help with anxiety, stress, loneliness, depression and suicidal thoughts as well as signposting to further support available locally.

Every Mind Matters
NHS website-based guidance to help lift mood or ease anxiety. Help includes an email programme which offers expert tips to deal with anxiety, and a six-week programme to help improve sleep.
It also provides CBT techniques and advice to help others who are struggling with their mental health.

NottAlone – providing mental health support across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire
Originally created in 2021 to help young people to access mental health information and support for them, NottAlone has now expanded to offer support to people of all ages across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
There is advice and guidance on a range of subjects, including body image, family separation, depression and obsessions and compulsions.

Children and Young People’s Mental Health Services
Targeted Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)
The Targeted Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) work with children and young people who are struggling with their mental health from birth to the age of 18.
CAMHS also works with the families and carers of those young people, or professionals who are working with them.
The service provides support in a base near where the individual lives, or in an environment where they feel comfortable, such as in school, a health centre, or a youth centre.
Following a referral, CAMHS may offer:
- Self-help
- Support to access the service best suited to the person
- Therapeutic work which could either be one-to-one, or in a group.
- Access to the digital therapeutic offer of SilverCloud which is an online therapy for young people, using a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy strategies to support and manage emotional health difficulties
- Consultation with professionals
Young people and parents and carers can self-refer to Targeted CAMHS.

Please note, CAMHS work across Nottingham city and work with families who have a registered City GP. Targeted CAMHS host the city Single Point of Access (SPA) where referrals are sent, screened and agreed outcomes are established.

Be U Notts provides a range of emotional wellbeing and mental health support for children and young people aged 0-25, with low/mild presenting needs, across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. This includes:
• 1-1 counselling (face to face or virtual)

• Self-harm risk support
• Advice and guidance for parents
• Training and consultation for professionals

Community CAMHS
Community CAMHS supports children and young people aged 0-18, presenting with mild/moderate through to severe and complex mental health needs, across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
This includes:
• 1-1 face to face interventions including CBT/DBT, psychiatrist and psychologist support depending on need
• Group work
• Psychoeducation
• Self-guided help
• Family support
• Art therapy
• Medication
