Nottingham and Nottinghamshire ICB
More than three-quarters of people in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire are now registered to use the NHS App, following a surge in sign-ups over the last two years.
Since July 2024, more than 300,000 Nottingham and Nottinghamshire residents have signed up to the NHS App, bringing the total number of users to 833,659 (75% of all people aged 13 and over registered with a Nottingham and Nottinghamshire GP practice).
The NHS App makes it easier for people to manage their healthcare at the touch of a button, using a smartphone, tablet or computer.
It has recently been updated to make it easier to use and now includes a new home screen where patients can instantly get to the information they need about prescriptions, appointments, test results, vaccinations, health conditions and other health-related documents.
In the recent GP patient survey, 50% of respondents in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire said that they found the NHS App easy to use, a big improvement from 43% in 2024.
A network of digital inclusion co-ordinators have also been working in GP practices, local libraries, care homes and with community groups to help people access the NHS App who may lack the skills or confidence.
Alexis Farrow, Programme Director Digital Notts said: “The NHS App is becoming increasingly important as a digital front door to health services. It allows people to instantly get advice, manage appointments, order repeat prescriptions and interact with a range of healthcare professionals to make healthcare more convenient and more personalised.
“Not only does the App provide a convenient way for people to interact with NHS services, it also helps free up phone lines for people who prefer more traditional ways of contacting their GP or other health services, including our local hospitals.
“To have more than three-quarters of our local population registered to use the app is a significant milestone and I’d encourage those people who haven’t used the app in a while to check out the new improved format and extra features, which continue to be added to.”
Simon Hogg from Beeston, Notts is a NHS App user and member of the Notts Citizens Digital Forum. He said: “As I work full time, ordering repeat prescriptions and juggling GP appointments was often quite difficult. It would mean taking time off work which was hard to balance.
“However, using the NHS App has made a real difference to how I can manage my own healthcare. I can quickly order my repeat prescriptions online and collect them when convenient. I’m also able to review my GP record and hospital letters which has been very helpful in recent months due to some ongoing health issues.
“And when I’ve need to contact my GP surgery, rather than make a phone call or visit in person, I can send them details via the NHS App and quickly get response. Using the NHS App is just really convenient. “
Digital Notts is a digital transformation delivery programme, which brings together the NHS, local councils and other care providers improve services across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
