Nottingham and Nottinghamshire ICB
Congratulations to Nottingham West (Primary Care Network) PCN who have been announced as one of the regional champions in the NHS Excellence Awards.
The PCN’s work on equity reviews within general practice has been judged as a regional champion in the Quality Improvement category. The PCN Equity Review was born out of a simple question: what would equity look like if it were treated as routine clinical business rather than a policy aspiration?
Clare Watson, Nottingham West PCN Clinical Lead for Health Inequalities said: “We wanted to develop a practical review tool designed to help practices reflect honestly on how inclusive and accessible their everyday systems really were.
“Making equity real takes more than structures and data, it takes people who care enough to keep asking who isn’t being reached and what needs to change. That commitment has been at the heart of this work.”
Dr Dave Briggs, Executive Director for Outcomes (Medical) at NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, said: “I am delighted to see Nottingham West Primary Care Network recognised as a regional champion in the NHS Excellence Awards. This achievement reflects a real commitment to listening to patients, challenging to do better, and working to make services more inclusive and accessible for everyone. Congratulations to all involved for leading the way and setting a standard we can all be proud of.”
About the equity reviews
Based on direct patient feedback and national guidance, the reviews focus on six domains that reflect both patient experience and system responsibility:
A shared determination to enhance patient experience
Newthorpe Medical Practice were the first surgery to opt-in to the review and were thrilled to achieve the top ‘Gold’ award for their efforts. The practice demonstrated a consistent attention to detail when seeking to address equity for their patients across a wide variety of areas.
Hickings Lane Medical Centre was the first practice to achieve Platinum with a 93% score. Dr Emma Robinson said: “We are very proud to be the first recipients of the Platinum grade in the Equity Review. We will still strive to make our final improvements to enhance the patient experience.”
Clare Watson concluded: “Being named a regional champion is something we’re incredibly proud of, because it recognises not just the approach, but the shared determination across our PCN to make care fairer in a way that patients can genuinely feel.”
The national winners of the NHS Excellence Awards will be announced on Wednesday 10 June.
The Nottingham West Primary Care Network (PCN) includes 12 GP practices and other organisations that work together to support the health and wellbeing of local people. It covers the three Broxtowe neighbourhoods of Beeston, Eastwood and Stapleford.
