Nottingham and Nottinghamshire ICB
The number of people using the NHS App to manage their repeat prescriptions has continued to rise sharply across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, with usage increasing by 140% in just 18 months.
New figures show that repeat prescription orders placed through the NHS App in the area increased from 59,085 in April 2023 to 141,901 in November 2025.
The surge in activity coincides with the launch of a new national NHS advertising campaign, which is encouraging even more people to download the NHS App and take advantage of the repeat prescription and many other useful features.
Between April and November 2025, the number of people using the NHS app to order repeat prescriptions saved the NHS more than 15,000 hours in administrative time.
If usage continues to grow at the current rate, this equates to 22,500 hours of admin time saved over a full year – an annual financial saving of almost £580,000 – which helps GP practices focus more time on patient care.
Jane Scarborough, Programme Manager at Digital Notts, said: “Simpler, faster access to repeat prescriptions is within easy reach, thanks to the NHS App. We’re seeing more people embrace digital tools that make managing their health easier, more convenient, and more flexible – anytime, anywhere.
“To get the most out of the NHS app, we’d encourage users to switch-on notifications so that they get instant alerts when prescriptions are ready, updates from their GP practice and reminders about appointments.”
The NHS App is making everyday life easier for patients and carers across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. People can now use the app to:
Jayne Birch-Jones from Mansfield (pictured) has been using the NHS app for the last seven years. She said: “Using the NHS App to order my repeat prescriptions is really convenient and makes my life much easier. There’s no need to worry about completing the paper prescription requests and then think about getting to the GP surgery.
“I just look in my NHS App and request the repeat prescriptions I need and then get a message from my pharmacy to confirm when the medicines are ready to collect. It saves me so much time and worry.
“I’ve even managed to order my medicines when I’ve been on holiday. By selecting a pharmacy near to our holiday cottage in York, I didn’t need to worry about not taking my medicine. I can’t imagine life without the NHS App.”
You can download the NHS App onto your phone or tablet from the App store on Apple devices, or the Google Play Store on Android devices.
