Nottingham and Nottinghamshire ICB
Our Chair, Dr Kathy McLean, attended the East Midlands Moving Well Conference at the University of Nottingham recently, where she said a few words on behalf of the Derby and Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, and Nottingham and Nottinghamshire ICBs.
The event brought together colleagues from health and care, local government, Active Partnerships and voluntary and community organisations to explore how movement can help create healthier communities, reduce inequalities and support people to remain independent for longer.
There were a series of workshops which highlighted best practice and explored how partners can work more effectively together and reach underserved communities. Attendees also heard from communities about the challenges they face and how Moving Well is making a difference to their lives.
Dr Kathy McLean said: “Movement can make a real difference to people’s physical and mental wellbeing at every stage of life. It can prevent ill health, support recovery and rehabilitation, improve mental wellbeing and strengthen social connections. However, opportunities to be active are not distributed equally, and some people and communities experience greater barriers than others.
“By working with our communities and partners, we can make movement a normal part of everyday health and care, help people remain healthy and independent for longer, and reduce health inequalities across our region.
“Working at a neighbourhood level is key. Communities already have valuable spaces, networks and trusted relationships that can help people become more active in ways that work for them.”
The conference supported the ambition of the ICBs’ shared Population Health Strategy that ‘every person in every community will live longer and healthier lives’.
