Nottingham and Nottinghamshire ICB
12 GP practices in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire will take part in a national Pancreatic Case Finding Pilot. The pilot marks a major step forward in the early detection of one of the most lethal forms of cancer.
This pioneering initiative involves GP practices proactively reviewing patient records to identify people who may be at higher risk of developing pancreatic cancer. They will look for key warning signs including people being recently diagnosed with diabetes and sudden weight loss. These people will then be offered diagnostic tests, with the goal of catching any disease earlier — when treatment is more likely to be effective.
Pancreatic cancer is often diagnosed late due to its subtle symptoms, making early detection critical.
The following GP practices in the Sherwood Primary Care Network and Clifton and Meadows Primary Care Network will take part in the pilot:
Pancreatic cancer has one of the lowest survival rates of all major cancers. By identifying at-risk individuals earlier, this pilot could significantly improve outcomes and save lives.
This initiative is part of a broader NHS effort to harness innovation and data to transform cancer care across the country.
