A total of 361,532 people topped up their immunity with an Covid-19 Autumn Booster jab in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
Figures show that 64 per cent of the eligible population and 85 per cent of over 65s in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire took up the offer of a lifesaving vaccine.
The Covid-19 autumn booster programme – which started on 5 September 2022 and ended on 12 February 2023 – saw 17.46 million jabs given nationally to eligible people including those aged 50 and over, residents in care homes, people aged 5 and over in an at-risk group, and health and social care staff.
Eligible people – including pregnant women, young children and those with an underlying health condition – still have until 31 March to come forward for their flu jab.
Adam Hayward, Deputy Director of Operations for the NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Vaccination programme, said: “Colleagues across the NHS as well as our partners across the healthcare system have come together over the winter months to deliver a successful Covid vaccination programme which has seen thousands of eligible people vaccinated and, in turn, protected from Covid-19.
“As we now start to prepare for a spring booster campaign, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the teams at vaccination sites, pharmacies, GP practices, outreach teams and those working behind the scenes who have all helped to keep the public safe.
“The vaccine is the best possible protection and booster doses play an important role in topping up the immunity of the most vulnerable people. We are in no doubt that the booster dose has helped to keep hospital admissions for the disease lower.”
The offer of a first and second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine is still available for those who have yet to come forward. People can book an appointment on the NHS website or by calling 119. Or you can also get a dose of the Covid-19 vaccine from a walk-in site without an appointment. People can find their nearest walk-in sites on the NHS website.
Booster doses are offered seasonally. The next Covid-19 booster doses will be available later in the year and if you are eligible the NHS will contact you when it’s your turn to be vaccinated.
